The University Library’s archives of the Swedish East India Company consist of handwritten ship’s muster rolls, ship’s journals, diaries, and other company records. In total, the collection includes more than 10,000 pages of digitized material.

About the Swedish East India Company

The Swedish East India Company was active between 1731 and 1813. It held a monopoly on trade with China and imported, among other goods, tea, silk, and porcelain. Today, the names of some individuals associated with the company are still well known, such as Sahlgren, Chalmers, and Alströmer.
